The lion decorated the shop front of the Golden Lion Tea House, which was established at 59 Bow Street. The premises were later purchased by John G. Feguson and continued in use as a spirit grocery after its lease to Jordan Brothers around 1950.

The new church was opened on Chapel Hill in June 1900, replacing an earlier building dating from 1786. The spire was added in the 1930s.
