Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about visiting the museum
Is admission free?
The museum is free to the public. Visitors can donate to our upkeep at reception.
We are arriving by coach, what do we need to know?
We are well-placed to accommodate coaches and coach trips. We offer free guided tours of the area, and workshops covering weaving and spinning, or programmes tailored to your group’s needs. We are easy to get to, just off the motorway between Belfast and Dublin.
Drivers can drop tour groups off at the south side of the Museum, and park for free at the nearby Island Civic Centre or the Lagan Valley Leisureplex (please contact reception on 028 9266 3377 for more information).
Can I bring a dog to the museum?
We love dogs as much as the next, however only service dogs are allowed in the museum. This helps protect the objects in our care from pests that may hitch a ride on your furry friend. We care for lots of textiles and taxidermy, which are particularly vulnerable to pests.
Is there a café?
We do not have a café. The town has a fantastic selection of cafés and restaurants, serving great local food. For an updated list contact the museum’s reception (Tel: 028 9266 3377, or ilc.reception@lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk).
