Event Details

To mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee join us on Saturday 4th June 2022 for a free screening of ‘A Royal Occasion’.

The film captures Queen Elizabeth II’s first visit to Northern Ireland as the monarch.   Cheering crowds greeted them, with many lining the railway track from Lisburn to Lisahally (near Londonderry) as a special Royal Train transported the couple through the Ulster countryside and along the scenic north coast. The Governor of Northern Ireland, Lord Wakehurst, declared a public holiday so that as many people as possible could see the new monarch. Their visit also took in Hillsborough, Lisburn Belfast, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Coleraine and Derry. The film includes footage of the Queen’s historic Coronation.

After the film you can enjoy our Platinum Jubilee Exhibition in the Market House Galleries.
