In collaboration with the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum and McConville’s Mill & Museum Dromore, Co Down, international jewellery artist Nora Fok developed “linlon”, a linen and nylon mixed mono filament thread. Researching the possibilities of linen for the first time, Fok grew her own flax from local seed and studied the various processing techniques before combining it with nylon.
This exhibition a the R-Space gallery brings examples of the sculptural body adornments she created with “linlon” back into the heart of the linen industry. Wrist pieces, ear-rings and neck pieces use the new thread, in combination with flax seeds and seed pods, Galway linen, stems, beads, pearls and other synthetic polymers.
