The Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum is delighted to be involved with the Suffolk Cross Community Group’s project of rediscovering a shared heritage.
‘Rediscovering Linenopolis: West Belfast’s Shared Heritage’ is in partnership with the Half Moon Lake, Grosvenor and the Plough Men’s Sheds together with Springfield Healthy Living Centre. After visiting the award winning ‘Flax to Fabric’ exhibition at Lisburn Museum and speaking with hand spinners and weavers the group have taken traditional processing skills back to their base to put into practice.
For the first time in well over one hundred years flax has been grown in the Suffolk area and the aim is to produce a piece of linen entirely from seed to cloth. The Irish Linen Centre is please to be a part of this journey.
