On June 18th the museum is commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo by mounting a small display highlighting the events, personalities and local stories attached to this hugely significant event. Did you know, for example, that Arthur Hill, the son of the 2nd Marquess of Downshire (1753-1801), the major landowner in Hillsborough served with Napoleon at Waterloo, and earned the reputation as the fattest man in the British army? Or did you know that the Duke of Wellington celebrated his victory each year with a banquet at his home, Apsley house, on table linen woven by Coulson’s, Lisburn?
Open Monday to Saturday, 9.30-5pm.
