On 28 September 1912, more than 450,000 unionists signed the Ulster Covenant on what was known as ‘Ulster Day’. In doing so, they made a solemn pledge to oppose Home Rule, fearing that government by an Irish parliament would be a disaster for the future of Ulster and Ireland as a whole.
This exhibition explores the significance of Ulster Day during the Third Home Rule Crisis (1912-14), and highlights how people in Lisburn responded to the Covenant.
