Rev David Corkey (1882-1924) was minister at Dundrod Presbyterian Church from 1911. During the Great War he served as a chaplain to various units on the Western Front, and in particular the 36th (Ulster) Division at Le Havre.
In this exhibition we explore the life and work of Rev Corkey, from his early years on missionary work in Belfast to his war work. An avid diarist and letter writer, the exhibition explores the war years through Rev Corkey’s words, from the loss of lost his left arm to a shrapnel wound, and the tragic death of his first wife in 1916, through the his experience of Armistice in Marseilles, France, in November 1918.
Alongside letters, objects and photographs, the exhibition includes a triptych, or three-panelled work of art, dedicated to Rev Corkey.
