On 4 July 1776, thirteen colonies on the east coast of North America declared their independence from Great Britain. The United States came into being, and, in time, the nation would grow to include 50 states.
To mark the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence, we have opened an exhibition called, ‘USA 250: Connections Across the Atlantic’. It explores some of our many links with the United States, both before and after American independence.
On this page, we highlight more stories that connect us to the USA. Did Hillsborough cause the American Revolution? Was the DeLorean cursed? Could the death of a Lisburn-born American millionaire be as intriguing as his life? Discover our #USA250 stories below.
