Sloan Street Presbyterian Church

Our Virtual Museum post for this week is a photograph drawn from our photographic collection of the men who built Sloan Street Presbyterian Church. The new church was built to accommodate a growing congregation at the end of the 19th century. Up until this point, the congregation met at a smaller building on Sloan Street, which then became the Sloan Street National School. The foundation stone of the new church was laid at a ceremony on 31st July, 1899 at which  Mrs. J.D. Barbour and Sir James Musgrave, Chairman of the Belfast Harbour Commissioners were guests of honour. The new Church opened its doors in 1900. Do you have any memories of the Church or Sloan Street that you would like to share? Get in touch and let us know.
