Folk dancing at Ballinderry, 1933 (ILC&LM Collection)
The Lambeg Irish Folk Dancing Society was formed in the early twentieth century amid a wider European revival in folk dancing. Members of the Lambeg society travelled around Ulster with Peadar O’Rafferty, a champion dancer, recording the traditional folk dances of the Irish countryside. This event, held at Mr Stewart’s farm at Crewe Hill, Ballinderry, was organised by the Lambeg Irish Folk Dancing Society in 1933. Mr Stewart, aged 78, is pictured dancing the ‘German Bow’ with Mrs Fallon and Mr and Mrs Lewis.
