Painting: Vietnamese Family by Cherith McKinstry H.R.U.A. (1928-2004)
Purchased by the Museum is 2011, the oil on canvas by local artist Cherith McKinstry and was a response to the plight of the people of Vietnam in the 1970s, during the Vietnam War.
About Cherith McKinstry
Born in Powick, Worcestershire, Cherith McKinstry attended Belfast College of Art. In 1954 she won a CEMA travel scholarship to France and Italy. In 1966 she won the Fergus O’Ryan Memorial Award at the Royal Hibernian Academy. One of her most notable projects was the completion of six ceiling panels for the Grand Opera House, Belfast. In 1968 she moved to Chrome Hill in Lisburn with her husband Robert, a conservation architect. The museum holds a number of her artworks in its permanent collection.
