Jar of Egyptian Linen possibly from the tomb of Tutankhamun.
The Museum’s collection holds this curious jar containing linen taken, it is believed, from the tomb of Tutankhamun (c.1300 B.C.). The jar was accessioned from LIRA, the Lambeg (formerly Linen) Industry Research Association, in 1994 and there is a clear line of provenance to Howard Carter, the archaeologist who ‘uncovered’ the tomb of the Egyptian king in 1922. This rare object can be viewed in our 40 years exhibition.
