In 1756, the Rev. John Wesley (1703-91), a founder of the Christian denomination called ‘Methodism’ which today has around 80 million followers worldwide, preached in Lisburn’s Market House (now the museum). He would return on 13 occasions during his long ministry. This exhibition tells the story of the local Methodist Society that Wesley helped to consolidate, and marks the 150th anniversary of the building of a new Methodist church at Seymour Street in 1875.
A wide selection of objects are on display relating to the early history of Methodism in Lisburn, as well as church life at Seymour Street over the course of one and a half centuries.
