Are you considering donating an artefact to the Museum?
We receive regular offers from visitors who wish to donate items to the collection. If you have an object, photo, book or even a story, and it relates to Lisburn, the Lagan Valley or the Irish linen industry, then please get in touch to discuss. The collection can only grow through the generosity of individuals and companies.
Why donate to the museum?
Once an object has joined our collections then it is cared for in perpetuity, and according to professional museum standards. We always acknowledge donations (unless you opt out!), and collect as much information about items, and the people who owned them. It’s a fantastic way to leave a legacy, and ensure objects can be enjoyed by visitors from across the world.
Before making contact with us about a donation it is worth noting that we do not give valuations; we do not usually accept items on long-term loan, and; we can’t accept items with specific conditions attached. We may not be able to accept an offer for a number of reasons, including:
- We have a similar item in the collection
- The item doesn’t meet our collecting policy
- The item is not in good condition
- There isn’t enough provenance information about the history of the item
However, if you think you have an item related to the collection then please fill out the form below with your name and contact details, plus a description of the item and a note telling us all you know about its history and ownership. For further guidance, please contact the Keeper of Collections.
Unsolicited Donations:
To help us manage donations properly, please arrange an appointment before bringing or sending any items into the museum.
