Scouting for badges: NI Scouts Challenge Award now available at Lisburn Museum

Lisburn scouts with Mayor Amanda Grehan in the Irish Linen Centre

There’s an exciting new initiative at the Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum. Scouts of all ages are engaging with their heritage to gain a new badge.

The NI Challenge Award scout badges bring an innovative refocus on local culture and heritage. Children and young people are exploring collections and develop real-world skills through hands-on, interactive learning.

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Alderman Amanda Grehan and scouts from the local area launched the scheme on Saturday 22 November 2025. Partners in the initiative are Scouts NI and the NI Museums Council.

The new challenge awards feature a badge for each scout section from Squirrels to Network. With a new syllabus and look by NI Scouts, the badges are refreshed for a modern audience.

It’s all about interacting with exhibitions, questioning guides and gaining hands-on experience. The NI Challenge Awards offer young people the chance to develop new skills, discover new interests, and connect with their community.
