The fifth talk in our 2023 Winter Talks Series features J.A.K. Dean on the plight of an endangered species, The Big Houses. Looking at ‘Big Houses’ in Northern Ireland since 1921, this talk focuses on those which were lost through accidental fire and terrorism, and those which lie today, dilapidated or abandoned .
J.A.K. Dean is an author and architectural historian. He is the author of several books, including The gate lodges of Ulster (1994) and The gate lodges of Leinster (2016). His most recent book, The gate lodges of Connaught (2019) was awarded the Colvin Prize by the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain.
