Winter Talks Programme Lisburn Museum 2023

 

The museum is pleased to announce our Winter Talks programme for 2023. Running from 31st January through to 7th March, this year’s programme brings together noted speakers from our history and heritage sectors including Professor Crawford Gribben, journalist Ronan McGreevy, Dr Laura Patrick,  historian J.A.K. Dean, and Professor Peter Gray.  We also have a fantastic panel discussion with Lisa Rea Currie, Linda Ervine and Carmel Duggan.

The full line-up includes:

 

  • 31/01/2023 – What Happened to Christian Ireland? A talk in conjunction with Lisburn Cathedral and its 400th anniversary – Professor Crawford Gribben, historian.

  • 07/02/2023 – Lisburn and the Assassination of Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson MP- Ronan McGreevy, historian and Irish Times journalist.

     

  • 14/02/2023 – Panel Discussion: ‘Who do we think we are?’: Issues of Identity and belonging- Lisa Rea Currie, Linda Ervine, Carmel Duggan.

     

  • 21/02/2023 – The Regimental Museums of Northern Ireland: Who, What, When, Where, Why?’- Dr Laura Patrick, Regimental Heritage Officer

     

  • 28/02/2023 – ‘Plight of the big house in Northern Ireland’- J.A.K. Dean, author and architectural historian.

     

  • 07/03/2023-‘William Sharman & the Volunteers in Lisburn and the Lagan Valley’- Professor Peter Gray, historian.

 

Professor Crawford Gribben’s talk on the history of Christian Ireland is in conjunction with Lisburn Cathedral, and marks 400 years since the founding of the church of St Thomas’, on the site of the present cathedral.

All talks are free and in-person, and take place in the museum’s historic Assembly Rooms. 

Doors open at 6.30pm for tea and coffee on arrival, and talks start promptly at 7pm.  Please note there is no allocated seating for this event.
